Performing weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery) on obese people who also have type 2 diabetes does not increase the cost of their diabetes treatment, according to new research. The study, conducted by researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, found that the savings made on medication and healthcare as a result of weight loss surgery meant that the overall cost of treating diabetes did not increase.
