BMI correlates your weight, your height, and is calculated by dividing your weight (in kilograms) by your height (in metres squared).
It is not a measure of how healthy or fit your are!
It gives you an idea of whether you’re ‘underweight’, a ‘healthy’ weight, ‘overweight’, or ‘obese’ for your height.
BMI is one type of tool to help health professionals (manly doctors & nurses) assess the risk for chronic disease.
An adult who has a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is categorised overweight – an adult who has a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese – a BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight, and between 18.5 to 24.9 a is healthy weight.
